Seriously. Today I went for a walk down to the La Jolla Cove to watch the seals in a pair of shorts and a tanktop. I’ll spare you a picture of that because I’m sporting some serious pasty white legs, but come on! I dare you to be in a bad mood when it’s the middle of January and you’re in a full summer wardrobe.

So seriously. San Diego. Do it. We can go get margaritas and watch the sunset over the ocean. Every single day. In shorts, of course.

Ladies night, aka Wednesday, is quickly becoming my favorite night of the week.

As I get older, I have to value my female friendships more and more. Don’t get me wrong, I still love grabbing a beer and watching a game at a bar. Sometimes, however, you just need your girls.

And pizza.

Duh.

 

Keep It Simple, Stupid

Oh yes. K.I.S.S.  – that’s my motto right now. (Please tell me I’m not the only one who uses that acronym).

After weeks of this:

Beer! Hurray for beer!

I’m making an effort to eat a little more healthfully. And even though I love making long, complicated recipes, I’m keeping it simple (stupid).

Enter my latest  go-to meal: steamed vegetables (different combinations of green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots) sprinkled with garlic powder and red chili flakes and braised tofu.

It turns out a 15-minute meal can be healthy, inexpensive AND satisfying.

To braise the tofu I simply sliced a block or pressed tofu into 1/4″ slices, placed in a pan with a little cooking spray and  1TBSP of toasted sesame oil, sprinkled with salt and pepper, and cooked on each side for about 5 minutes, then drained. Easy-peasy.

Glass of red  wine optional 😉

It’s Not Cold In Southern California

Unfortunately, nobody told my body that…. I’m currently suffering from a miserable cold/sore throat combination. This is not so unexpected; we are in the middle of cold/flu season. It just happens to be  feel more miserable because as I am typing this, it is currently 80 degrees in La Jolla. Does.Not.Seem.Fair.

Oh well. At least I was happy and healthy last week for all of the New Years Festivities. Happy New Year lovely readers, by the way.
