You Know It’s A Slow Day…

When your day, thus far, has consisted of alternately watching the video below, and reloading the “Shipment Tracking” page on your Amazon account in hopes that it will finally update to say that your Space Heater has been delivered.

Why am I watching this video, over, and over again?

Easy – I’m trying to memorize it (almost there!) in anticipation that I will be able to easily roll it off my tongue in response to something my significant other has said. Duh.

Buon Weekend lovelies!

Crossing My Fingers

That Monday calls in sick tomorrow.

There Went Peter Cotton Tail

Uh, what happened? It’s already TUESDAY night? I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that the days after a holiday are always a time to play catch up. But it was worth it. I had such a lovely weekend. Here are some photos…

Nothing says spring, or Easter, like tulips!

I may have borrowed Tino's ears

Don't you just want to squeeze his little cheeks?!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well!

Friday. Good Lord you came just in time! This week has been quite the week. (I think my favorite part would be the coffee-infused hit and run committed against my laptop…it was not pretty).

It hasn’t all been bad, but it has been exhausting. Let’s just say I am going to thoroughly enjoy a strong beverage or two tonight.

My Weekend In A Single Photo

Valentino helping me sweep the patio.

We were unapologetic bums. And it was GLORIOUS.

I’ll Have What He’s Having

This is how Valentino lays about. Always.

Just chilling

I think I’m going to follow his cue this weekend and make it one of leisure.

Leisure translates into yoga pants and slippers, yes?

Is It Just Me?

Or does today feel like the end of summer. Goodby August…goodbye summer?

I guess we still have labor day to get through… And let’s face it, I live in San Diego. I still have several weeks of beach time to enjoy before temperatures start plummeting (sometimes it gets down to the 40’s! Brrrr)

Some random beach shots from this weekend:

I think that's Adam's hand in the corner. Probably trying to help me off a big rock during our "hike." I'm extremely clumsy...

It was a lovely afternoon. I even went into the water where I did not get swept away and knocked on my bum by two huge waves as Adam watched and laughed. Yep, it was a good day.

P.S. Shout out to Ang – Happy Birthday!!!!

Get Over It

The weekend is long gone. And the next one is still a few days away.

But seriously, it’s hard to get over them when weekends represent this:

Sunday. Beach.

That was, for a few moments, my view. Then the stupid flies/gnats/whatever-they-were hanging out in the beached Kelp wouldn’t leave Adam and I alone. And the sun wasn’t particularly cooperating.

Beach was abandoned with the hope of returning next weekend.

But check it(!) – whilst trying to see a band/venue for Adam’s upcoming show this Wednesday (hint, hint: be there) I spied this in the bathroom:

Hard core punk, and stuff...

Coastal Gris is legit, yo.

But seriously, you should go. I’ll be there. Maybe I’ll buy you a beer. Who knows?

The Weekend Is Practically Upon Us

This week has flown by and I love it! Every week should have Mondays off 😉

So in that spirit, I’ve been determined to stay positive this week. And I’ll admit it – it’s been difficult a few times. I’m sure like many of you I have been following that trial this week. To say that it’s a tragic situation is making light of it. Too say that it’s probably one of thousands a year doesn’t make it any sadder to me. (Yes the media coverage was excessive. But that doesn’t make it any less sad.) So, the legal side of me (damn you law school!) understands why a not guilty verdict was handed down (mostly circumstantial evidence resulting in lack of evidence for the elements of the crime, blah blah blah) but the human side of me is so disappointed. The reason for so little evidence? The Defendant lied for months and misled authorities and searchers! It’s frustrating and probably only a small taste of what happens on daily basis. To my friends who work at the DAs office or specialize in criminal defense – my hat’s off to you. I don’t think I could stomach it. Life’s unfair. But it’s not horrible. These are the times when I’m reminded that I have a pretty swell life. I’ve never gone hungry, I’ve never been in danger of being homeless and I have the most wonderful set of family and friends (shout out to my mom who is celebrating her birthday and is still smoking hot!). So yes, focusing on the positive. And my apologies for the rant.

Rant officially over.

On to some things we really care about… eats! (Good ones too!)

Wasa crackers, laughing cow cheese, sliced strawberries and deli turkey

My new favorite treat:

Salad greens, cucumber, chili lime shrimp, homemade miso dressing

Simple salad with leftover shrimp:

Cilantro lime quinoa, chili lime shrimp kabobs, grilled veggies (zucchini, bell pepper, red onions and corn)

Leftovers from night before:

Chocolate covered waffle cone chunks. Done.

Who says food doesn’t make you happier?

So listen, you need to do yourself a favor and MAKE that miso dressing. It is light, refreshing, sweet and tangy at the same time. I can’t wait to experiment with this recipe in the coming weeks!

Ginger Miso Dressing

  • 2 TBSP White Miso paste (you can buy this in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores in the same area you would typically find tofu– Bonus: it’s cheap!)
  • 4 TBSP rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1/2 TBSP – 1 TBSP honey (depends how sweet you want the dressing)
  • 1 tsp powdered ginger (I didn’t have any fresh ginger, but you could probably substitute 1 TBSP of fresh ground ginger for the powdered stuff)

  1. Mix all ingredients in a food processor/blender. You could also do this by hand with a whisk 🙂
  2. Enjoy!

Yes. It’s that simple. And people, it’s THAT delicious.

So what’s keeping a smile on your face this week?

Well That Was Fun

It was such a great Fourth of July weekend I’m just now getting back into the swing of things.

The San Diego weather was amazing. My brother and his girlfriend Heather dropped by Sunday. And there was lots of eats. Lots.
